Am southern outskirts of Leipzig, adjacent to the City of Zwenkau Lake Zwenkau is located. Until 1999, lignite was mined in the Zwenkau opencast mine. After the complete flooding, Lake Zwenkau, with an area of almost 10 km², is the largest body of water in the southern Leipzig New Lake District.

With its emerging recreational facilities on the northern shore of the lake, the large water surface and the many green areas around the lake, Lake Zwenkau will be a highlight for those seeking relaxation, water sports enthusiasts and visitors.
On the southern shore of the lake is the Cape Zwenkau with harbor flair, lake feeling, waterfront promenade, parks and green spaces, cafés, restaurants, shops and a marina.

An approx. 22 km long circular route around the lake invites you to Exploring the countryside by bike or on foot In 2015, Lake Zwenkau reached its final water level. The first sailboats were able to dock in the harbor starting in May 2015.
