The “Kulki”, as it is affectionately called colloquially, was flooded from two brown coal mines at the end of the 60s and is therefore one of the first open-cast mining lakes in Leipzig’s New Lake District.
With a water surface area of 150 hectares, it is one of the smaller lakes, but it is characterized by its excellent water quality, lush greenery and excellent connections to Leipzig city center by tram, S-Bahn and bus.

Three diving entrances into the lake, some with underwater platforms and sunken diving objects, attract many divers from all over the world.
A water ski lift is a popular meeting place for all wakeboarders in Leipzig and the region. A floating lido, boat rentals, and the new aqua park round out the maritime leisure offerings at Lake Kulkwitz.
On a peninsula of the lake lies the idyllic holiday resort with the most beautiful Campsite of the Leipzig New Lake District and the cozy Swedish houses with holiday apartments for up to 4 people and a balcony overlooking the water.
But also Bungalows or small Finnish cabins are available for your holiday at Lake Kulkwitz.
